The Black Voice News (BVN) and the Inland Empire Voice (IEV) will on Thursday October 20 host a listening session on issues that are essential to the community.
The event, dubbed the Festival of Ideas, is part of a larger series of community engagements meant to identify undercovered issues and engineer solutions.
The event will feature question and answer sessions with BVN and IEV journalists on the areas they cover, including health equity, economic justice, environmental climate justice and system impacted.
“We are in the middle of a series of in-person events underlying community commitment and this is an open invitation, specifically to community based organizations working on these four areas,” Amber Bolden, the event organizer, said. “We are looking for community based solutions to some of our most challenging issues”.
The festival is a brainchild of BVN and IEV publisher Dr Paulette Brown-Hinds and is geared at reinforcing partnerships between the organizations and the community to allow more robust and engaging solutions based journalism as BVN celebrates 50 years of community service.
Engagements and solutions from the event will help inform reporting work of BVN and IEV.
“We are positioning ourselves as allies and having a relationship with the community is critical,” Bolden said. “We are the only ones that can tell our stories. Making sure we have a strong relationship with the community is important”.
The event starts at 10am at the Culver Center for the Arts with a session on issues affecting the community and ends at 2pm.
